The CTC Program was developed in 2004 as a community service to provide a structured educational program for those interested in learning the science of electrocardiographic recording techniques. Upon fulfillment of all CTC program requirements, graduates receive a certificate of completion. The curriculum is based on the content specifications of the Certified EKG Technician Examination administered by National Healthcareer Association (NHA)(Home | National Healthcareer Association | Allied Health Certifications), and graduates are encouraged to sit for this certification examination. Graduates who sit for, and pass, the Certified EKG Technician Examination, obtain the Certified EKG Technician credentials that follow their name as (CET).
In accordance with and in support of the mission of the Nashville General Hospital, the Cardiographic Technician Certification Program is committed to educating highly skilled cardiographic technicians who will provide quality care for their patients. It is the program’s mission to promote cardiographic recording skills, high-quality patient care, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, professionalism, and continuing education. This is accomplished through a three-month didactic and clinical curriculum.
As the only freestanding EKG program of its type in Tennessee, our program is designed to prepare individuals for national cardiographic technician certification. Our goals are to ensure the quality of EKG services in an ever-changing healthcare environment, and ensure ongoing reimbursement for healthcare facilities, as it is likely that insurance companies will begin requiring certification of those performing EKG exams as a condition of reimbursement eligibility. Classes are held on scheduled Saturdays between 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Students are also required to attend a total of six clinical hours each week on any day shift (Monday through Friday), between 8:00 am to 2:30 pm. These clinical hours may be scheduled for one 6-hour day or two 3-hour days to provide flexibility to fit into your schedule. There are no scheduled weekend clinical rotations.
Note: The student may schedule the aforementioned tests/immunizations through their personal physician or at Nashville General Hospital.
*NOTE: All fees subject to change. The program currently is not a Title IV participant through the Federal Department of Education. This means students are not eligible for Federal Student Aid (government-funded student loans or deferments). Please contact the program officials for information on state financial assistance centers.
